Shobit Gupta

For us, there is only trying. The rest is not our business
This has been the mantra of Shobhit Gupta, graduate from NSIT in 2011 with a degree in Instrumentation and Control Engineering who through his hardwork and persistent efforts made his way to Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon.
Belling the CAT
Shobhit considered Quantitative and Data Implementation as his strong points. He suggests that it is always beneficial to try solving questions orally. Making equations and then solving them tends to make things complex. It is always advisable to deal with variables mentally.
As far as Verbal Ability is concerned, for all those who find it difficult to work with grammar, practicing more of it helps one to get the knack of it. “Word power made easy” by Norman Lewis might help some who are facing difficulty with the vocabulary part. Though CAT never requires one to cram up the dictionary, it is general reading.
Recalling his preparation time at TIME, Ghaziabad, Shobhit feels that one should master his strong points while striking a balance altogether.
GD/Essays – MDI conducted a GD on the topic, “Corruption is essential for growth in business”. “One should focus on posture, intervals of speaking, listening is as important as speaking”, says he.
Personal Interview-“At MDI, I was asked questions on class 10th and 11th physics, no core engineering questions were asked though it depends on your branch. At IIM-Rohtak, I was asked questions about ‘fuel meter of a car’. To summarize, keep yourself updated on current affairs, have an opinion on recent happenings and topics in general.”
Four years at NSIT, says Shobhit, had been the best time, with a freedom to delve into numerous opportunities according to ones will.
MDI-Pulling out all the stops
Relieved with his result, Shobhit admits that despite a rigorous schedule, quizzes, presentations, MDI provides a great deal to learn from. Assignments and projects are completed in a group and a good amount of one’s evaluation is based on participation in class. There are ample number of student-run clubs/societies like marketing, finance, placement committee, councils for fests, et al and hence, activities to indulge in, as the institute opens doors of knowledge to broaden perspectives as the corporate world demands. Agreeing with others, he regards it as an enriching experience to learn with and from people with experience and to be able to contribute according to ones capacity.
In the closing note, Shobhit asserts,” CAT is a thinking paper. You do not need to whack your brains while appearing. It depends on how fast you think. “
